Happy Birthday To Our Daughter-In-Law,, Dee

Happy Birthday To Our Daughter-In-law,

Dee and our son, Edward, have birthdays just 10 days apart.  In January of this year they reached 28 years of marriage.  The time flew by so fast....

Since my son, Edward, was our first born after 8 years of marriage, I doted on him big time!  As a result, I made a lot of foolish mistakes in the early years of their marriage.  I always tell parents, "If you want to see your child after they are married, you much keep your mouth shut!.  Your job is done, so let them grow up and find their own way in this world.  Offer them nothing but your love and support.

I made my share of mistakes along the way,  For example, I had the kids over for dinner to celebrate Edward's birthday one year.....completely forgetting my daughter-in-laws birthday was in ten days.  It was unintentional, but it didn't help my relationship with my daughter-in-law!

Another time, I referred to our home as Edward's home completely forgetting that he now had a new home!  I didn't realize what came out of my mouth, until my daughter-in-law said, "HOME!"  I was obviously struggling with letting go of my son!  Now, 28 years later I feel I have learned to "finally" be a mother-in-law.

Edward & Dee gave us a grandson, Ryan, whom I adore.  Ryan just recently became engaged to Rachel.  I hope I live long enough to see a great-grandchild.

I am so proud of my kids.  They both work for AT&T, and have a lovely home.  I couldn't ask for more.  And true to the quote above, Dee,  knows my son better than anyone.

Below is a video I took when Dee got a promotion in 2006, which I would like to share.  It starts off with Dee's 18 birthday, their wedding day etc.

I hope you have a fabulous birthday, Dee.

With all of my love, Vonnie

Happy Birthday To Our Daughter, Bridget

Happy Birthday To Our Daughter, Bridget

Today our daughter, Bridget,  turned 47 years old.  In the photo below, Dave was 35 and Bridget was 1 year old.  We were vacationing in Kentucky that year.  If only, I could have that day back....

Bridget was a "Daddy's Girl" for sure.  One year she wanted a puppy, and when I said, "NO" she went straight to her dad.  Even today, whenever we disagree she says, "Dad would understand!"

When Bridget was in high school, she received an insurance settlement & wanted to buy this gold Trans Am.  I said, "That car will be in the driveway more than on the road!"  Dave said, "It's her money, let her spend it the way she wants to".
Whenever her dad disciplined her he always used a very calm but stern voice, which was very effective.  Even when he was sick he disciplined her, which made me laugh.  Even as sick as he was, parts of himself would surface.  Those were the moments I savored.

When her dad got sick, Bridget moved into our backyard trailer to help care for him.  She cooked all of our meals, which allowed me to care for my Dave full time.  Watching him slowly fade away "before our eyes" took it's toll on all of us....especially Bridget.  It broke my heart when she later said, "It was like seeing him in his casket every single day!

The song below expresses the deep love a daughter has for her father.

Our son turns 49!

Our Son Turns 49!

Of course, this is one of my favorite photos of Dave & his son, Edward. We were living in our second home, and our precious dog. Whitey, is in the background.

I can't believe our son is turning 49 today!  He was our first child, born eight years into our marriage.  We wanted to start our family right away, but it wasn't meant to be. Needless to say, we were overjoyed the day he was born.

Edward has a little of both of us in him!

Examples of his Dad

I didn't realize how much Edward looks like his dad, until I started looking at old photos of Dave.  His voice is much like his dad's....low and sometimes hard for people hear them.
He has a quiet & serious personality like his dad.

When he bought his first truck, he just wanted a plain truck...nothing fancy.  He said, "Oh no, I sound like my dad!"

Back when he was working for Circuit City, he had to dress in a casual shirt and slacks and said, "I am starting to look like my dad!"

One of my strongest memories is when he wanted a dirt bike, and I was against it.  Then one day he and his dad came home with a dirt bike!

Another day, I was introducing Edward to a high school friend of Dave's and he said, "He looks just like Dave looked in high school!"

Examples of his Mom

Like me, Edward likes computers.  One time Edward dropped off a new phone for me when I wasn't home and his dad said, "Your mom won't know how to use that!"  Edward responded, "Mom will figure it out!

Growing up, Edward had me in the palm of his hands.  One time his dad told me, "Edwards talks and you jump!"

One time I had stuff stacked up in my studio, and his wife Dee said, "Like Mother, Like Son!"

Like me, Edward, can also be very out-going at times.

Sometimes when he visits, he wanders into my studio to see what changes I have made.  And when I visit his home, I always check out his computer room.

In Conclusion

Our son has turned into a fine man, husband, and father.  Our son loves his family very much, and is a good provider.  Whenever, I need him, he never refuses me.  His dad & are very proud of the man he has become.

Happy Birthday, Edward
With all of my love, Mom
